Stronger – Faster – Safer

With the onset of the 1970s, the automobile has established itself as the most important means of private transport. Motorcycles have made a comeback as leisure vehicles. Manufacturers and politicians are now paying increased attention to the safety of road users in the design of new vehicles and the imposition of new traffic regulations. A 1970s discotheque complete with light show gets the visitor into the right mood for this era. The last three decades of the millennium are characterised by the dominance of the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers. BMW survives as the only German motorcycle brand thanks to its advanced engineering and stylish contours. Helmets and seat belts, airbags and functional clothing: we show how different aspects of active and passive safety and the desire for comfort gradually displace performance and speed as the main purchasing criteria.
